“Now more than ever, American women are leaning into self-care and DIY beauty rituals,” said Stephen Orr, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, in a statement. “Our goal for this year’s awards was to narrow down the top beauty brands that elevate the everyday at-home routine and curate a shortlist of standout products to empower our diverse audience with inclusive and accessible options that help them feel good, highlight their best features, and keep their budgets in check.”

During the process of selecting product winners, hundreds of products from brands that launched products between September 2019 and September 2020 were submitted, reviewed and evaluated based on affordability, inclusiveness and sustainability.
